I began my fitness journey like many other “crossfitters-turned-weightlifters” in a globo-gym here in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Although I was able to lose 60 pounds over the course of 3 years there, I began to search for something more. My fitness was stagnant, and my motivation and drive to run on a treadmill and complete another ‘biceps and back day’ was at an all-time low.
This is when my search for a crossfit gym began. I ended up walking into Crossfit Grand Rapids, a gym less than 5 minutes from my house! After crossfitting for over a year, my passion for weightlifting blossomed.
Now, a full time Olympic weightlifter, competing as a 62kg competitor, my choice to switch from crossfit to only OLY has fulfilled the void I had developed. My PR lifts include an 87kg snatch, and a 110kg clean and jerk. With strictly OLY focus now, and with the help from the coaches and other athletes at CFGR, my athletic career has only just begun!
Fitness has become one of the biggest parts of my life. I believe that to maintain a healthy lifestyle you need proper nutrition and supplements. Along with proper recovery (sleep). Being in my mid 30’s it is very important to stay active and keep your body strong. I feel that staying in good shape will help lead me to a long healthy life for when I am older and decide to retire. Put in the work now and you will benefit it for life. Staying in shape and healthy will help you live an optimal lifestyle. I will continue to maintain these things with myself and my family.
