Suitcase Deadlift Dumbbell Exercise

Suitcase Deadlift Dumbbell Exercise

The Suitcase Deadlift Dumbbell Exercise is a simple, functional drill that engages your posterior chain while also challenging your core strength.

Step 1

Step 1

Stand in between two dumbbells with your feet about 6 inches apart. Bend at your hips and slightly at the knees and grasp the dumbbell handles.
Step 2

Step 2

Use your hamstrings, quads, and glutes to lift the dumbbell up while exhaling. Your arms should be fully extended and should not bend when lifting. Try not to round your back as you lift.
Step 3

Step 3

Keep lifting until you are standing straight up. Pause for a second, then slowly lower the dumbbell back down. Make sure you bend your knees slightly to keep from putting the entire load onto your back.

Tips & Warnings

If you have lower back problems, the Suitcase Deadlift probably isn’t a good lift for you. Consult a professional and do not attempt it until they have given you the go ahead.

If this lift is too easy, try to do the same motion only using a single dumbbell. This will require you to keep your abs tighter to lift the weight.
